3 Easy Homemade Treats For Diabetic Dogs

If your dog has diabetes, you very well know that it is important to watch his diet. It is ideal that you feed your pooch only healthy food. But even though there are restrictions to what he can eat, it doesn't mean that he shouldn't enjoy treats like other dogs. Make his day and reward him with these healthy yet easy-to-make homemade dog treats for diabetic dogs:

Oatmeal Peanut Doggy Cookies
What you need:

  •     1 egg
  •     1 cup unbleached all purpose flour
  •     3/4 cup old fashioned rolled oats
  •     1/2 cup olive oil
  •     1/4 cup chopped peanuts
  •     1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  •     1/4 teaspoon non-aluminum baking powder
  •     1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract

In a small bowl, stir together egg, olive oil and vanilla extract. In a separate bowl, mix all purpose flour, oats, baking soda and baking powder together then carefully combine with egg mixture. Add chopped peanuts. Using a teaspoon, drop cookies into a greased cookie sheet then bake in a pre-heated oven (300F) until they turn to a nice light brown color, about 30 to 40 minutes. Allow to cool and harden overnight before serving.

Yummy Chix and Beans Diabetic Dog Food

What you need:
  •     2 cups water
  •     1 cup cooked white rice
  •     1/2 cup cooked shredded chicken breast
  •     1/2 cup green beans
  •     1/2 tablespoon corn oil
  •     1 teaspoon dicalcium phosphate (better to check with your veterinarian first)
  •     1/4 teaspoon salt

Bring the water to a boil in a pot over medium-high heat then add the rice, corn oil and salt. Simmer for 15 minutes. Stir in shredded chicken, green beans and dicalcium phosphate. Simmer for another 10 minutes. Mix ingredients until well-blended. Allow to cool completely before serving to your dog.

Rosemary and Beef Dog Treats

What you need:

  •     1 1/2 cups whole wheat flour
  •     1 1/2 cups unbleached white flour
  •     1 cup vegetable broth
  •     1/2 cup cooked beef, sliced into small pieces
  •     1/4 cup oat or wheat bran
  •     1/4 cup olive oil
  •     1 1/2 tablespoons dry yeast
  •     2 tablespoons beef broth
  •     1 tablespoon chopped dried or fresh rosemary

Combine all ingredients in a bread maker and set it to "dough". When the dough is ready, divide into 3 and roll into 1/4-inch thickness on greased cookie sheets. Shape using cookie cutters and bake in a pre-heated oven (275F) for 1 hour. Let sit in the oven overnight before serving.
